Medication Type Long Term Control 
Brand Names BecloventŪ, VancerilŪ, QVARŪ 
Generic Names Beclomethasone 
Description This inhaled aerosol spray decreases swelling in airways, which have become narrower and decreases the chances of an asthma attack.  
Dosage Adults and children greater than 12 years old-Previously treated with bronchodilators alone, initial, 40 to 80 mcg twice a day; MAC 320 mcg twice daily. Previously treated with inhaled corticosteroids, initial, 40 to 160 mcg twice daily; MAX 320 mcg twice daily.

Children 6-12 years old- 40 mcg twice a day; MAX 80 mcg twice a day. 
Precautions Beclovent should not be used as quick-relief medication. Patients with tuberculosis, fungal or bacterial infection, herpes, or systemic viral infections should use caution when using this medication. Particular care is needed in patients who are transferred from systemically active corticosteroids to beclomethasone because of deaths due to adrenal insufficiency. 
Side Effects Headache, irritation of the airways leading to contraction, throat irritation, hoarseness, fungal infections in throat and mouth. 
Proper Use See instructions for correct use of inhaler. Rinse mouth after use to prevent fungal growth. Use every day for best results. 
Common Interactions None reported. 
Proper Storage Store medication at room temperature. When not being used store the medication so that the product rests on the concave end of the canister with the plastic actuator on top. When using, be sure to warm the inhaler to room temperature to deliver the correct amount of medication.
